Safety meeting held at Gulfport airport following emailed threats

After recent emailed threats were sent out to airports across the Magnolia State, first responders along with the public met up to discuss safety measures.

Safety was the topic of discussion during a board meeting at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, addressing the handlings of emergency situations that transpired earlier in the month

With the alleged bomb threats and emergency landing incidents recently occurring at the airport, the Harrison County Fire Department, the Gulfport Police Department, the International Guard, and more were all present during the meeting.

They shared their thoughts on the plan of action at the time.

The meeting was open to the public as well, allowing for guests to voice their questions and concerns to the board.

Safety measures, live drill demonstrations, and emergency plans were all talked about during the meeting.

Sergeant Tory Johnson of the Gulfport Police Department, Chief Demetrius Baldwin of the International Guard, Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan were all recognized for their response efforts during the alleged bomb threats.

Pat Sullivan shares with us some of the improvements he’d like to see when it comes to safety.

“One of the things I think we can do better is is maybe improve our communication skills as far as having the equipment we can talk to one another on,” said Sullivan. “Say a radio on the same channel that everybody has that capability of talking to one another. That would be something simple but something that could be addressed”
