Safeheart Health Screenings

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in Mississippi. Singing River Health System is trying to change that.
Cardiologists in Pascagoula spent the morning performing non-invasive screenings. One looks at the carotid artery which identifies buildup in the neck which could lead to a stroke. The other screening was to the abdominal aorta, looking for any signs of enlargement which could be life-threatening. Practice administrator Timothy Neese said, “If your abdominal aorta, 95 percent chance if it ruptures of death. So basically if you’re not sitting at the hospital somewhere or pretty close to it, chance of survival is pretty slim and a lot of times there’s no signs or warnings to that. Basically what we’re doing is trying to screen folks and capture some of those.”
There were will be another health screening at the Ocean Springs CV Clinic on Monday, March 6th. The screening costs $75.
