S.S. United States arrives in Mobile, Alabama
The S.S. United States has arrived in Mobile after leaving port in Philadelphia on February 19th for its final voyage to the Gulf Coast.
It was once considered the ‘Pride of America’s Merchant Marine Fleet.’
The ship is scheduled to undergo preparations before being sunk off the Florida Panhandle, becoming the world’s largest artificial reef and a scuba diving destination.
Crews will make sure it is environmentally safe and that it will land upright underwater. The process will take about a year.
