RW Development receives site approval for casino at Veterans Avenue
A ninth casino could be coming to Biloxi in short order, after a developer was given site approval on Thursday.
RW Development plans to put a casino on property on the southeast corner of Veterans Avenue in Biloxi. The company received site approval, meaning the location meets state requirements to place a casino on the site, during a meeting with the Mississippi Gaming Commission this morning in Jackson.
According to our media partner, Sun Herald, RW still has to meet several conditions for the approval to remain valid:
They company has three years to get financing in order and present plans for the casino to get construction under way.
RW Development must maintain its lease with Biloxi and Harrison County for the property south of U.S. 90 and requires construction of a handicapped accessible pier at an estimated cost of $3 million — and maintain it for public use.
Site approval cannot be transferred to another party without approval by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
The casino floor must be within 800 feet of mean tide, as required by law since Hurricane Katrina.
After RW Development presented its case to the Gaming Commission, operators of other casinos presented their objections to the application — mainly that the lease doesn’t meet the requirements for a legal site.
The commission met in executive session before announcing the site approved.
