Runners take to the road for the Wesson Memorial Run
Despite some early morning rain, runners made their way to the Y in Ocean Springs for the 43rd Annual Wesson Memorial Run.
Each year, the run serves as a way to honor the memory of Ray and Ann Wesson, two local benefactors who died in a plane crash in 1980.
The 2-mile run started at 8, followed by a children’s run taking place just 30 minutes later.
“My husband and I met through running at William Carey, so our first son we had to name him Miles,” said Andrea Plocher. “My husband Jacob, he’s a big runner in the community and coaches cross country for Gautier. We try to be a healthy family.”
“Fun on the Fourth of July for my daughter Caroline. It’s her first race and so she’s going to set her personal best today,” said Robert Ridgway. “It’s good to get out and move around on the Fourth of July.”
This race is an annual Fourth of July tradition in the City of Discovery.
