Runners gearing up for Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon

Runners are gearing up for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon.

This weekend’s event includes a marathon, half marathon, 5K and kids marathon.

The long races offer a unique opportunity to run on Beach Boulevard, starting in Pass Christian and ending at MGM Park in Biloxi. The course is scenic, flat, and fast.

Once runners reach the finish line, there’s a post-race party featuring local seafood, BBQ, beer, and great music.

This year, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon has a new course for the Margaritaville 5K. It will feature a point-to-point course starting in Ocean Springs and finishing at Margaritaville Resort in Biloxi.

MS Gulf Coast Marathon Marketing Michael Wattigny said, “We’ve got runners coming in from 44 states. So, when you take out the kids, which obviously is very locally driven, and the numbers jump up to about 78 percent are from out of town. So, it’s a tremendous economic engine for the Coast.”

The full marathon and half marathon kick-off Sunday at 7 a.m. The Chevron Gulf Coast Kids Marathon starts at 9:30 a.m. and the Margaritaville 5K starts at 8 a.m. Saturday.
