Rube Goldberg Day at Ocean Springs High School

Snapping a photo never looked more complex than it did at Ocean Springs High School today.
This complex machine that performs one simple task was just one of the many Rube Goldberg machines on display today. Ocean Springs High School physics class students were tasked with creating whimsical machines using everyday items. The teams worked hard for several weeks designing elaborate ways to perform tasks like wrapping a gift, raising an American flag, and even whipping up frozen daiquiris, non-alcoholic of course.
The project coincides with the students lessons on energy and simple machines. Ocean Springs High School junior Rachel Reynolds said, “Our project, it’s like a fun day in Hawaii and then at the end a volcano erupts. It’s been a lot of hard work. We had a lot of problems at first, but today it’s working out pretty well.”
Ocean Springs High School junior Andrew Bowie said, “Ours takes a polaroid picture. I think ours won crowd favorite. I don’t know if a lot of people agree with that, but a lot of people like ours. I’m really proud of us. We worked really hard. It took about four weeks start to finish.”
Fourteen machines were on display for this year’s Rube Goldberg Day competition.
