Rollover crash kills 4 and shuts down interstate in Jackson County

Four people are dead after a wreck on Interstate 10 in Jackson County this morning. The accident completely shut down I-10 West for several hours. Authorities have not yet identified the victims killed in the roll-over crash.
Shortly after the deadly accident on Interstate 10 this morning in Jackson County two first responders were injured in a separate accident. The accidents also made it a difficult day for travelers.
Trapped for hours in traffic after a deadly roll-over accident in Jackson County wasn’t how Bruce Cook was expecting to spend his morning. Cook was taking his RV in for some minor repairs, damages incomparable to the major wreck further up Interstate 10. “It has been nice compared to other folks. I can relax and read a good book and be patient while they take care of the misery that’s up the road.”
Four people were killed at the scene of the crash on Interstate 10 near Exit 61. All four killed were in a Ford Expedition. Two of the vehicles were 18 wheelers carrying fuel that leaked onto the interstate. Chase Elkins with Mississippi Highway Patrol said, “The 18 wheelers had a diesel tank. The diesel tanks had ruptured and spilled onto the interstate.”
The fatal accident blocked all four lanes on Interstate 10 west for several hours. The heavy traffic caused another accident 30 minutes later, not even a mile away. “We had Gautier Police Department, Gautier Fire Department, Acadian,” said Elkins.
Acadian Operations Supervisor Frank Duke was one of the victims sent to the hospital in the second accident. Jackson County Emergency Services Director Earl Etheridge also experienced minor injuries in the second accident.
A violent Wednesday morning, Cook tells News 25 something needs to be done to prevent this area of I10 from being so dangerous for motorists. “Not specific to Mississippi, but we certainly have our fair share.”
The names of the four people killed in the Ford Expedition have not been released.
