Rock N Roll Senior Bash

Today the Biloxi Park and Rec department held their annual Rock N Roll Senior Bash at the Donal Snyder Senior Community Center.

The event was free and open to all senior citizens age 55 and older. The senior center has been putting on this 50s themed party for more than 20 years now. This sock hop gives these elders a chance to socialize and remember the good old days.

A senior citizen dance group the Swinging Starlets made a performance. These dancers as well as other at the bash believe it’s important to get out and be active. Swinging Starlet Dancer Shirley Lawson said, “We have a lot of fun. We’re all in our 70s and 80s so anybody can do it.”

Senior Bash attendee Eva Williams said, “A lot of seniors don’t hardly get out of their apartments and then they get down and sick because they don’t, you know, you gotta keep your body exercising and all that.”

This senior bash isn’t the only fun filled event the center puts on. If you would like more information on how to get involved you can visit their website at Biloxi.ms.us.
