Robotics competition at St. Patrick High School
St. Patrick High School hosted its first tech challenge tournament on Saturday.
Twenty teams from throughout the state came to the Catholic high school to compete in the Gulf Coast FTC qualifying tournament. The FTC challenge this year was ‘Relic Recovery.’ Teams had to program robots to recover as many relics from the playing field as possible and place them in designated areas.
The first 30 seconds of the game is autonomous and then the remaining one minute and 30 seconds will be operated by team drivers. Robotics teacher Debbie Worrel said, “The game was introduced in September and it’s called ‘Relic Recovery’ and the objective is to recover gems and relics that are supposed to be hidden on the playing field and you strategize with your team to develop different ways to approach the game and play it.”
There are a total of 70 teams across the state and 17 of them were at the competition on Saturday.
