Road work on Interstate 10 could cause traffic delays

Motorists who normally use Interstate 10 in western Harrison County and eastern Hancock County might want to look for an alternate route.
Mississippi Department of Transportation is advising travelers on its website that crews will be working on the overhead bridge deck at Menge Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be lane shifts in the area.
Congestion and major delays are expected, according to MDOT.
In addition, there is road resurfacing work being performed from County Farm Road in Harrison County to Mississippi 603 in Hancock County with alternating lane closures that also could affect traffic in that area. East- and westbound lanes are affected in those areas.
MDOT also advises that there will be intermittent rolling lane closures on I-10 from Highway 605 and County Farm Road in the westbound lanes for shoulder work that also will cause traffic delays. That work is ongoing from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, there were backups along the interstate that lasted until about 4:30 p.m. because of the road work.
