Road to the Big House: Stone Tomcats making resurgence to hoops prominence
The fifth and final team making a run at a title in Jackson is Stone.
The Tomcats are the most surprising representative from the Gulf Coast, having gone eight years since their last winning season prior to this one.
They don’t seem to know any better, going a rock solid 24-5 up to this point. Eleven out of their 12 varsity players are either juniors or seniors, making their second unit almost just as effective as their first.
Stone opens up with Callaway in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday from the Big House.
Here’s the weekend slate for the quarterfinals featuring five Gulf Coast teams on the docket. Stone is the only one that plays Friday. That’s followed by a run of four Saturday games between the St. Martin girls and Starkville, Gulfport girls versus Murrah, Pascagoula against Greenville, and Harrison Central being the nightcap headliner, taking on the Starkville boys.
