Road to the Big House: St. Martin Lady Yellowjackets riding 17 game winning streak

After losing two games in row back in December, the St. Martin girls basketball team has been virtually untouchable.
The Lady Yellowjackets are riding a 17 game winning streak up to the state tournament with their magic number down to three. The Jackson bound Jackets haven’t just been beating people, they’ve been winning handily by an average of more than 20 points per game over that stretch.
St. Martin is led by Mississippi State signee Daphane White who dropped 46 points in her team’s second-round game versus Harrison Central.
The 6’5” center is joined by six other seniors on a roster that also features eight juniors making this season the perfect storm for the jackets to make their run. St. Martin Point Guard Nyjarrae Avant said, “Well, we’re just trying to work hard, communicate together so we can win Saturday.”
St. Martin Head Girls Basketball Coach Gina Bell said, “Everyone knows Daphane White, 6’5″, Mississippi State commit, she is the center of our program. But everybody else has bought in, we’ve got a great group of senior leadership. And these kids, they work hard, they work well together and they genuinely like each other so they want to win for each other. And the great thing about these girls is they don’t care if Daphane scores all the points, Daphane doesn’t care if she doesn’t score any points, they want to win for each other.”
It is gonna be an early morning for St. Martin who tips things off with Starkville at 9 o’clock on Saturday.
