Road to the Big House: Gulfport Lady Admirals rewriting history
Throughout the high school girls basketball regular season, region 8 class 6A was an absolute logjam with all four teams capable of winning the district tournament.
Gulfport was the one that got hot at the right time and is still hot at the right time.
The Lady Admirals are riding a four game winning streak up to the Big House where they’ll face Murrah in Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup in Jackson. Prior to that, Gulfport had lost three in a row immediately following an eight-game hot streak.
The ups and downs are all part of a growing process under a first year head coach, but with Gulfport’s first-ever trip to the state tournament looming large, the Brooke Glass effect is now in full effect. “It’s been a world of emotion, but it’s been amazing. We’ve had our ups and downs. The girls, it took them a little while to buy in and to start believing. But the coaching staff has been very consistent in telling them how great we can be if we would just come together, start playing as a team, working individually. And these past few games they’ve actually started to see the progress, to see how good they can be when they come together and now they’re starting to believe and to buy in to the system and good things are happening.”
The Lady Admirals will tip things off with Murrah at noon on Saturday from the Big House.
