River Flooding Concerns in Gulfport
The rain stopped today but river flooding is in full charge.
Back by Riverroad Drive in Gulfport, it’s hard to see where the Biloxi River ends and the street begins. The Biloxi River was recorded at 16.7 feet around 7 this morning. However, the projected crest for today is 17 feet. The flood stage is 12 feet.
Even though the high water is a shocking sight to some, residents in the area tell News 25 this is not out of the ordinary. Gulfport resident Phil Pelman said, “This is pretty bad. It come up real quick, in just a matter of an hour or two. It was bad, but I have seen it a little worse.”
The Wolf River also travels through Harrison County and was recorded at 13 feet this morning. There is a projected crest of 15 feet today. The flood stage for that river is eight feet.
