Rise in investment scams in Mississippi

Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson is sounding the alarm about a rise in investment scams lately.

Secretary Watson says his office has received an uptick in reports of scams lately. The three types of scams to watch out for are crypto currency scams, gift card scams, and affinity fraud scams which is where the scammers build relationships over time to gain trust with the people they plan to scam.

The Secretary of State’s Office says there are lots of warning signs, including unsolicited contact, pressure to invest in things, and emotional manipulation.
