Right to Contraception Act
Members of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus announced today that they will introduce the Right to Contraception Act in the next legislative session.
Caucus Chairman Chris Bell cited remarks concerning contraception by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the Dobbs Decision that overturned Roe v. Wade as a reason to put the right to contraception into law.
Representative Zakiya Summers is sponsoring the bill. State Representative Zakiya Summers said, “Labor and delivery units from Hancock to LeFlore Counties are closing. One in six women of childbearing age is uninsured and according to a report by March of Dimes, more than half the counties in Mississippi are considered maternity health deserts.”
