Riding for a Good Cause

Who says you can’t get down and dirty while supporting a good cause? This weekend in Perkinston, you can do just that at Red Creek Off-Road for a benefit helping a former Gulfport firefighter. News 25’s Katarina Luketich takes us to the muddy spot where the three day event is taking place.
Benefit organizer Brandon Necaise said, “It’s just mud. If you haven’t been in mud, played in mud, or rode four-wheelers in mud, ride horses, I don’t care. When you go mudding together, you become a family.”
That’s what Gulfport firefighter Brandon Necaise is trying to do this weekend, create a large family of community members to support one family that’s dear to his heart. Marty Capers is a former Gulfport firefighter and a father of four. He sustained a back injury that has now caused a disease to take over his central nervous system. With medical bills piling up and children to provide for, Necaise felt this was the time for the community to come together for Marty. “We all are family in the fire department. We’re a brotherhood. When you go out there and put your life on the line for somebody else, I feel that the community should step up and help you in a time of need,” said Necaise.
A $30 pass will let you enjoy all the trails you want. The event starts today and runs through Sunday with concerts on Saturday night.
If you make your way out this weekend, it will not just be you and the mud. You might see a film crew here. They are out here filming the pilot episode of a new reality show called “Generation Mud.” Country rap artists Twang and Round are excited to include South Mississippi in their episode. Their show is supposed to highlight mud culture. What better way to showcase that than roughly 600 people coming together in the mud to support a family in need? “I was an underprivileged child growing up so Christmas wasn’t the greatest as far as monetary things. We had love and I think that’s what transcends here. I think that’s what people will see. It’s all about the love that you can give back,” said Twang.
This is the third benefit that Brandon’s ATV Services has put on, each one for a different cause. This one is personal to Necaise and he hopes the community will rally and ride to help the Capers family this Christmas.
