Ridership estimates for two months of Amtrak on the Coast
With the month of September now in the books for Amtrak’s Mardi Gras Service, the Southern Rail Commission has released a brief update on how the service is doing.
Since the start of service, 19,000 people have taken advantage of the route with four South Mississippi stops with an average of 105 passengers on each train.
Demand has also increased for the service, especially during Cruisin’ the Coast.
In a statement, Southern Rail Commission Chair Knox Ross says these numbers show that people in the region are excited about passenger rail and are eager to use the service and that strong ridership numbers moving forward may lead to expanded capacity in the future.
