Ribbons for Domestic Violence Awareness
The ladies with Adrienne’s House added some sparkle to Pascagoula patrol vehicles this morning.
Purple ribbons were tied at the Pascagoula Police Department to represent Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Several police SUVs and motorcycles shined with the decoration, showing support for Adrienne’s House.
This also lets the community know domestic violence happens more often than you think and it is okay to reach out for help. Adrienne’s House Shelter Director Amanda Johns said, “Lend a hand. Some individuals are comfortable with being direct and saying ‘you know there is something I can do to help you.’ Other people are indirect. They’ll call 9-1-1 or they’ll even distract and they’ll get in between the two individuals, but you just have to do whatever you’re most comfortable with.”
Adrienne’s House is the Jackson County branch of the Gulf Coast Women’s Center for Non-Violence. Both provide a safe shelter and resources for battered women and their children.
