Ribbon cutting for renovated natatorium at YMCA in Ocean Springs
The YMCA hosted a ribbon cutting for their newly renovated natatorium.
The new pool is being rededicated to the late John and Mary Alice Miner.
According to YMCA CEO Jara Miller, the couple saw a boy drown and vowed to teach every young child on the Gulf Coast how to swim.
That journey started here in 1972. Mary Alice Miner taught swim lessons until she was 90-years-old.
The pool is 51-years-old and was in need of an update to continue their legacy. “This natatorium has been around for over 50 years, and it has been well loved and well used. And it was just time that we really needed to make another major investment to bring it up to the level that it needed to be for not only our members, but the children and the families we serve across the Gulf Coast.”
The Miner Natatorium is now open and ready to teach more children how to swim.
