Rev. Al Sharpton responds to lawsuit threats related to Nolan Wells death investigation
Al Sharpton and his attorneys are responding to threats of a lawsuit from three of the men who were on Horn Island with Nolan Wells on July 4.
In a 15-page response dated August 31, Sharpton’s attorneys argue he never accused the men of murder, evidence tampering, or other crimes.
They say Sharpton instead questioned the investigation and called for answers about Wells’ death.
In a letter obtained by our media partner, the Sun Herald, Sharpton’s attorneys also argue he did not identify the three men by name in the challenged statements and say the original demand took some of his comments out of context.
Sharpton’s attorneys went on to say he will not apologize or retract his statements and say if the three men sue, Sharpton will not only defend himself, but pursue legal relief of his own.
