Retiring Officials in Jackson County
Today marks a big election year for Jackson County, with three local offices that will see new faces.
There are three races to fill retiring positions in Jackson County. Chancery Clerk Terry Miller will retire after 17 years. Benny Goff is about to wrap up his position as tax assessor after five terms. Joe Martin will also retire after 36 years as circuit clerk.
“I think it will be fine. They’ll have to get elected and learn, just like I did 36 years ago. The mandatory training sessions that we have as circuit clerks that they’ll be attending and they’ll learn. It’s just a matter of getting in there and rolling up your sleeves and going to work,” said Martin.
The polls will be open until 7 o’clock tonight.
