Retired teacher’s killer to serve life in prison
Scotty Street, the man found guilty for murdering a retired Lucedale teacher in December 2014, will spend the rest of his life behind bars without parole.
The sentencing comes as a result of Street’s trial which ended this afternoon in Jackson County court.
The family of 55-year-old Frankie Fairley have waited nearly three years since she was murdered for this trial. Now there is finally justice.
Fairley was stabbed 37 times then Street dumped her body in a field not far from where she lived in Hurley. Street then stole Fairley’s van and committed a robbery at a D’Iberville store.
Earlier this morning in the sentencing phase of Street’s trial, doctors testified, telling the court Street was diagnosed with severe mental illness which may have impacted his actions the day he killed Fairley. That was what Street’s defense attorney asked the jury to consider before they went into deliberation.
The district attorney pointed out evidence that Street did know what he did was wrong. District Attorney Tony Lawrence said, “I wanted the jury to remember Ms. Frankie. It seemed like the trial kind of turned into all about Scotty Street and she was a special woman and I think the jury did do that and made the decision they felt like they could make. I think the family is really glad that they finally got to hear a jury. They’ve been waiting for three years for this and I think they’re glad it’s done.”
Frankie Fairley was a retired special needs teacher and a mother of 13. More on who Frankie Fairley was in an exclusive interview from family at 9 on Fox and 10 on NBC.
