Restoration of Downtown Biloxi
Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, there has been a growing effort to revitalize Howard Avenue in downtown Biloxi. Officials decided to start the revitalization process with improving the infrastructure on Howard Avenue. The goal is to encourage new businesses to open their doors along what used to be a booming commercial street.
Mayor Gilich said, “Developing some preliminary plans and the look and feel of what we are trying to re-authenticate, you know the look and feel of Howard Avenue. That was a place with in its self. The street itself is almost like a dance floor, so it was happening and then coupled with the awnings and the neon signs and so forth it was a very cool place.”
Plans to bring back the old look of Howard Avenue have been confirmed, and construction will begin once a detailed design is in place.
