Resolutions to get in Shape
Getting back into shape usually tops the New Year’s resolutions list. How do you stay motivated to make your health a lifestyle choice for good?
New 25’s Laurene Callander shows us how some locals are preparing to stick to this resolution for a life time.
Frank Magee pushed through the initial pain and struggle of heading to the gym three years ago, when his health became a concern, especially with his knees. “A few years ago, having some health issues and issues with my knees, doctors just encouraged me to lose a little weight.”
A little weight turned into 35 pounds. Magee tells News 25 reaching your goal is not a race, it’s a marathon. “You’re talking about longevity. You know it’s not just coming in and working out, it’s eating right, getting your rest, proper nutrition. When you make that a part of life, trust me, you’ll feel better, you’ll look better and after a while, it just becomes your routine,” said Magee.
Magee found his motivation to get to the gym because of his bad knee and he’s been sticking with it for years. How can other people get motivated to go to the gym and make it a routine past New Years? Planet Fitness General Manager Andrew Zornes said, “Find a workout partner, if at all possible. You can motivate each other and find some instruction. If you don’t have a workout partner, take advantage of the free fitness training at Planet Fitness, they’ll definitely help you stay motivated.”
The key is consistency. Have goals in mind but realize that results do not happen overnight. “Just look within and look at it from just a general health standpoint, none of us are body builders or trying to be a super model but when you get in the gym, you work out and you feel a lot better. When you feel better, you feel better about yourself,” said Magee.
