Residents rescued by emergency services in LaPlace, Louisiana

Crews are rescuing people by the dozens in the town of LaPlace, Louisiana today.

High water vehicles are a common sight in this neighborhood after rain from Hurricane Ida flooded many homes.

One woman says the water slowly started seeping in under the door and eventually it was up to her waist. Her family went to the attic for safety.

Another flood victim was thankful his two-month-old daughter and her mother were able to escape the flooding.

State Representative Randall Gaines, who was a military lead during the Hurricane Katrina response, said he’s never seen anything like this.

Flood victim Tomeka Marshall said, “Last night was rough, we um, we saw slow water coming in under the door and then it progressively just got – I was mopping and it progressively got worse, until it was ankles, knees, almost chest level, so we just put the dogs on the counters and then we climbed into the attic.”
