Residents react to Ocean Springs primary election results
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)-Big change is coming to the City of Ocean Springs after Tuesday night’s municipal primary elections with new officials set to take the helm for the next four years.
The biggest news of election night came from the race for mayor in which incumbent Ocean Springs Mayor Kenny Holloway was defeated in his bid for a second term.
Current Alderman at Large Bobby Cox wins the primary with 74 percent of the vote compared to Holloway’s 16 percent.
The other two candidates in the race, Jon Hitchcock and Dennis McGrevey, received less than ten percent of the vote.
There will be major changes in the next term for the Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen as well.
Ward 1 Alderman Jennifer Burgess, Ward 2 Alderman Ricky Authement, and Ward 6 Alderman Mike Impey all lost re-election in their respective primaries.
The Alderman at Large Republican Primary was won by Matthew Hinton Sr.
