Residents React to Bomb Scare in Gulfport

As a safety precaution, residents who live in the area of the explosive scare in Gulfport Wednesday afternoon were told to evacuate their homes immediately due to the threat of the potentially explosive device.

Many were out of their homes for hours on end. Residents were finally able to return after 7 p.m. Wednesday night, once the Biloxi Bomb Squad determined the device was not a threat. Residents who live in the neighborhood say the flashing lights and threat of an explosion was an unusual scene for an otherwise quiet community.

Katlin Currier, a resident, says, “It’s a little nerve wracking, especially in this small community. I haven’t been here long, but I mean, this is almost the center of town here and if anything happened here it’d be really scary.”

Timothy Mason, a resident, says, "I don’t know, worried. I mean, I’ve lived in this community a long time and I’ve never had to worry about locking my door or anything like that, and now this dude gets pulled over with a bomb. I’m scared."

Sarah Kluczkowski, another resident, says, "Very concerned, but with the police department and the bomb squad, they seem like they’ve got it all handled and I’m very proud that it didn’t turn out to be a disaster."

Residents are glad to be safely back inside their homes and are grateful for the swift action of the Biloxi Bomb Squad, along with the Harrison County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments.
