Residents get a second chance in Long Beach
City officials want to extend residents of Long Beach a second chance through the warrant clearance program.
It’s designed to give people an opportunity to clear themselves from the courts. Anyone with misdemeanor charges is able to participate.
All you have to do is go to the Long Beach Courthouse and talk with the judge and receive a court date. Residents will not have to post a bond or be arrested and sent to jail during this time.
The program launched in Long Beach last year and City Clerk Emma Ward says it feels great to lend a helping hand to the community. “It’s just a way of helping them out. Knowing that they have a warrant sometimes prevents them from coming in. It’s important to just help them get clear. No driver’s license, help them get better jobs, if you don’t have a license sometime you can’t get a job. This really helps with that kind of stuff.”
The program will run from February 1st to April 30th.
