Residents celebrate at third annual Juneteenth Celebration in Gulfport

Gulfport residents spent Saturday afternoon celebrating the freedom and achievements of African Americans on the Coast and across the nation.

It was all part of the third annual Juneteenth Expo at the Isiah Fredericks Community Center. Several Gulfport natives shared their heritage and family history with those in attendance.

Vendors set up shop along the outside greenery, letting guests browse and shop for art while also getting the chance to learn about different community resources at their disposal. Physical and Mental Health Chairman Nakisha Henderson said, “You have just various individuals showing off their personal tables of history of Juneteenth. We have a table setup talking about physical and mental health, the importance of diabetes education as well as mental health, how it affects our black community.”

Those at the Juneteenth Expo also had the chance to register to vote in the upcoming elections.
