Rescheduled: I-10 E to CLOSE overnight at Menge Ave. next week

HATTIESBURG, MISS. – An overnight closure of all lanes of I-10 eastbound at Menge Ave. originally scheduled for Thursday, March 7 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 12 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. due to wet weather conditions.
The closure is taking place as part of the Menge Ave. interchange project funded by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors and Buc-ee’s.
While I-10 E is closed, crews will place concrete beams, perform bracing and install safety devices across the eastbound lanes, a critical process in the construction of the new overpass. During the closure, traffic will be re-routed utilizing the Menge Ave. exit and entrance ramps. Detour signage will be in place, and drivers may seek alternate routes. Motorists are reminded to be on high alert for roadside workers.
The work follows the closure of I-10 W at Menge Ave. on Feb. 15, which allowed a similar construction process to take place over the westbound lanes. After beams are placed across the overpass following the I-10 E closure, crews will begin installing the bridge deck.
The timing of the closure is subject to change and dependent upon construction progress, availability of materials and weather conditions.
The project’s scope includes replacing the Menge Ave. bridge over I-10, widening entrance and exit ramps and widening Firetower Road. Construction is expected to be completed in November 2024.
