Republican mayoral candidates speak before runoff elections on Tuesday
The mayoral Republican run-off will take place on Tuesday in Ocean Springs with candidates Kenny Holloway and Melanie Allen in the running.
Both candidates spoke with News 25 and discuss their plans for the city.
Allen and Holloway shared their vision on what they want to see changed and improved in the City of Ocean Springs. Broker and owner of Holloway Real Estate Services, Kenny Holloway says that he has five principles that he will be following to make the city better. “Leadership, economic development, infrastructure, amenities, and beautification and within those we have different things we want to attract.”
The City of Ocean Springs is growing at a rapid rate and civic leader Melanie Allen has a plan put in place to help with making citizens feel engaged in every aspect of the city. “I think the greatest asset we have is our people. So many people are willing to be part of the process because we all know this is an exceptional place where we are blessed to live.”
Both candidates say that they really want to focus on infrastructure in the area. They want to find ways to expand roads and ways to alleviate traffic in the growing Ocean Springs area. “We have issues with traffic along Highway 90. We want to see that road widened. We don’t want to create a raceway out of it, but we want to move the traffic.”
“We also have parking and traffic issues. A lot of places would love to have these problems. It means we are popular, but we need to continue the conversations about those issues that are already starting.”
Parks and recreational facilities are also an important factor within both candidates’ agendas. “We have some areas we need to refurbish as far as fields go and Gay-Lemon Park is one of them. It’s not in good shape. The facilities need to be upgraded and brought up to standards.”
“We want to see recreations and parks that address needs for all citizens of all ages from young to seniors.”
Holloway and Allen just want the people of Ocean Springs to get out and vote on Tuesday.
