Rep. Palazzo & Rivers of Recovery Announce Salute to the Military 5K
Congressman Palazzo had the following to say:
“It’s a pleasure to not only raise funds for Rivers of Recovery so it may continue to support the recovery of thousands of physically and psychologically injured combat veterans, but to also partner with the Combat Readiness Training Center as our race location host. The C.R.T.C. provides quality training and validation for all services branches and for a price that is affordable to the Department of Defense. The race serves as an opportunity for the community to support R.O.R. while visiting the base and better understanding its capability.”
Rivers of Recovery was established as a means to help wounded combat veterans overcome their injuries through an innovative program of medically-designed curriculum coupled with outdoor recreational activities, stated Dan T. Cook, Executive Director of Rivers of Recovery.
In 2013, the first Salute to the Military 5K had over 100 participants, raising proceeds for the encore Honor Flight to send World II Veterans to Washington, D.C. Congressman Palazzo presented a $10,000 check to Honor Flight at the 35th Annual Salute to the Military. This year’s Salute to the Military will be held on Tuesday, October 21st and General Frank J. Grass, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, will serve as the featured speaker.
Rivers of Recovery is recognized as one of the premier recreational rehabilitation programs in the United States. Their scientifically proven treatment programs are changing the landscape of rehabilitation programs for veterans struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.) and other combat-related psychological disorders.
Located at 4715 Hewes Avenue in Gulfport, the Combat Readiness Training Center is only one of four C.R.T.C.’s in the United States that is operated by the Air National Guard. Its mission is to provide support for all branches of the military, as well as National Guard and Reserve components. Equipped with a state-of-the-art training system, C.R.T.C. is able to engage thousands of pilots annually in mock combat.
