Rental assistance available for Harrison County residents
You may be able to receive funding to help you with your rent.
It’s been over a week since Open Doors Homeless Coalition was put in charge of distributing a $6 million grant to Harrison County residents needing rental assistance.
So far, they’ve had over 400 applicants and are already writing checks. The grant money is for individuals with low or moderate income that have fallen behind on rent and have been directly or indirectly impacted by COVID.
Residents making $38,000 a year or less for a family of four and $30,000 or less as an individual can apply. Open Door Homeless Coalition Executive Director Mary Simons said, “The thing is even if people are back to work. If you have rent that you’re unable to pay when you were off work or you were home schooling your children, being able to cover the back rent and even the forward payments is difficult. We’re here to help people get stable.”
If you’re interested in applying call 228-604-8011. If they don’t answer just leave a message. Their goal is to assist as many people as possible.
