Renovations underway on two piers in Back Bay Biloxi

Two piers on Biloxi’s Back Bay are now closed as a major renovation project begins.

Deemed unsafe for public use by the city, the Forrest Avenue Pier and Porter Avenue Pier are being completely demolished and rebuilt.

Crews have already started removing decking, handrails, and a pavilion at the Forrest Avenue Pier.

Once work there is done, workers will do the same renovation work at the Porter Avenue North Pier.

This project will cost the city about $400,000.

All work is expected to be finished by the end of August.

City Spokesperson Cecilia Dobbs Walton says both piers are popular spots for city residents. “It’s a great place for people to launch their boats. It’s also a great place for people to hang out and fish off the pier. It’s a nice calm area. You have parking right across the street from the piers. So, it’s used. It’s actually been used for years and years and years being on the water front.”

While these piers are closed, the city is asking the public to use the old ice wharf pier on Bayview Avenue instead.
