Remembering the life of Kayla Cooper

A Wiggins family mourns the life of Kayla Cooper, who was killed Easter Sunday after being shot. She’s a mother who leaves behind a legacy of positivity and love for her three children to remember forever.

After the death of 22-year-old Kayla Cooper, twin toddlers will only get to kiss their mom through pictures.

According to Wiggins Police, Cooper was found dead Easter morning by a family member. She had been fatally shot.

Awaiting justice for Kayla’s murder, the family home fills with gospel hymns and prayers of faith. Kayla’s aunt Paulette Johnson said, “We just have to keep our heads up and think about positive things for Kayla, just positive things that she did, looking back to keep our spirits up.”

Kayla is remembered for her smile and positive attitude. Kayla’s sister Tekiyah Cooper said, “We were totally opposite. She was funny. She was goofy. She made everybody laugh, always had a smile on her face.”

As a mother of three, she dedicated her life to raising her children. “She loved her kids. She loved her kids.”

The suspect for her murder is 23-year-old Zavago Wilson. Police say Cooper and Wilson were in a relationship and had children together. He turned himself into authorities and is held at Stone County Correctional Facility without bond.

“Our family, we’re gonna make it through this because we have our father. We have faith. We’re going to make it through this. We gonna make it. We just ask everybody to continue to keep praying for us.”

Kayla leaves behind three children, a set of two-year-old twins Jayda and Jayden and a one-year-old baby girl Zariah. The children are now in the care of her family. “They keep saying her name, just calling out for her and stuff.”

Her family set up a GoFundMe page to help care for the three toddlers and pay for funeral expenses.  You can find the GoFundMe page by clicking here.

They are asking for the community’s support as her light and smile will truly be missed.
