Remembering Randy Johnson

The Gulfport community is grieving the loss of 41-year-old Randy Johnson who died from multiple gunshot wounds at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Biloxi Saturday morning.

A loving father of three and soon to be grandfather, Johnson was well known and respected amongst his peers and community.

As the owner of Cuts Barbershop in Gulfport, he was a leader and mentor to young kids who sat in his barber chair.

Growing up other guys in the neighborhood looked up to Johnson and wanted to be as cool as him.

Jacques Cox, his childhood friend, describes Johnson as mild-mannered, cool, and will be truly missed. “Aww man, I was heartbroken, shocked. I couldn’t believe, especially with the way it happened. Gun violence has been a plague on this city lately. It’s just sad to see somebody like him to be the victim of it. He didn’t bother nobody. It was just a, from my understanding, it was a complete misunderstanding and now his life is gone. But in the meantime, I’m just going to say some uplifting words for him and we’re going to keep him alive. Everybody loved him.”

The date for funeral arrangements for Johnson has not been announced yet.

Another childhood friend, Andrew Grayer, had this to say about the loss of Johnson. “He was a real close childhood friend, a real humble person. He owned a barbershop and all the kids loved him. Randy was cool with everyone. He always smiled. If Randy had a bad day he wouldn’t even show. We all are still in disbelief. He was a good person that everyone gravitates to. This one here is a hard pill to swallow. Rest in peace, Randy.”
