Remembering Nygel Poole
A site of violence turned into a memorial site in Gulfport tonight.
Friends, family, classmates and associates of 16-year-old Nygel Poole gathered on 19th Street for a candlelight vigil. The event started out silent but as the crowd grew larger, quiet sobs and stories of Nygel filled the air. Close friends of the victim encouraged the crowd to take his passing as a wake-up call to finally put an end to gun violence in the area.
London Taylor said, “If we all come together and put our mind on something positive and be consistent, we can change the world and make it a better place because we have to set examples for the youth.”
Xavieon Hands, said, “Yeah, it makes me scared to walk up and down my own street. It doesn’t feel the same without Nygel here.”
Kedarius Jordan said, “Just crying so hard. I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a dream. I thought it was fake. It couldn’t be Nygel, it ain’t Nygel. Just couldn’t be true.”
The candlelight vigil ended with a long and encouraging prayer. The group prayed for the victim’s family, the future of the youth in the neighborhood and for an overall safer community.
