Remembering Lt. Michael Boutte five years later

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Sunday marked a somber anniversary for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

It was five years ago that Lt. Michael Boutte was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a welfare check at a home on Earl Ladner Road in the Necaise community.

The man charged in Lt. Boutte’s death, Michael Rohrbacker, was sentenced to life in prison on a capital murder charge in 2023.

Boutte’s legacy is carried on by his colleagues at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office as well as his wife and two children.
