Remembering Deputy Chief Walter Keck

Former Deputy Chief Walter Keck aka ‘Barney’ loved all of the Cruisin’ the Coast festivities which is the perfect timing for the unveiling ceremony of the boulevard street named in honor of him.

Keck passed away at age 75 on June 25th this year. D’Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne dedicated a portion of Automall Parkway to be named Deputy Chief Walter Keck Boulevard. Officers from the D’Iberville Police Department among others came out to attend the ceremony.

The section was named after Keck to let everybody know Walter may be gone, but his legacy will live forever in the City of D’Iberville. Chief Payne said, “We want people to know that we are not going to forget Walter. This city is not going to forget Walter. This is just a small token. When they come by here, they’ll be able to see this is named after Barney, it’s named after Walter.”

Chief Payne tells News 25 Walter was known around Cruisin’ time for jokingly giving people tickets for having too much fun. Inside the tickets were certificates and coupons from local businesses in the City of D’Iberville.
