Remembering D-Day: 72 Years Later

Today marks the 72nd anniversary of D-Day.
Seventy-two years ago on June 6th, 1944, thousands of Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, courageously invading the Nazi-occupied country. D-Day is known as a major turning point for World War II.
WWII Veteran Marvin C. Westcott tells News 25 he remembers the day vividly which marked a beginning to the end of Hitler’s reign. “It was our offensive and their offensive. They worked hard and they did a beautiful job and all the sacrifices, it finally brought relief and peace to our allies and got rid of that Hitler and Tojo, so I was really happy about D-Day.”
The number of veterans who lived through the Normandy landings is lessening each year, but what they did on D-Day will go down in history forever.
