Relay for Life: Light up the Night

Hundreds of people gathered in Gulfport tonight to ‘party with a purpose’ during the American Cancer Society’s annual relay for life.
The five hour tailgating style event celebrates the lives of people who lost the battle with cancer, people who are currently fighting the disease, and the ones who survived it.
This year’s theme was “light up the night” and over 40 tents offered food and fun activities under the Barksdale Pavilion in Jones Park to help contribute toward cancer research.
This year’s honorary cancer survivor was local businessman Scuba Steve. “It means so much to me just to come this far in a year and be a survivor and inspire other people and be a part of this fraternity and sorority that’s survivorship.”
The night included honorary events such as the survivors lap, the caregivers lap, and the candle lighting ceremony.
