Reeling in the season at the Saucier Senior Summer Fest

On Thursday, seniors spent the day splashing into summer at the Saucier Senior Summer Fest.

It’s a part of Harrison County’s growing initiative to create more community events for senior citizens. The event gave seniors the opportunity to party like children, enjoying ice cream and playing corn hole with friends.

Organizers say its important to keep South Mississippi’s senior citizens engaged with activities like these. Harrison County PIO Valeria DeMatties said, “We cater to our seniors by providing things that they enjoy doing. Whether it’s an outing or an event, the food that we serve. This is something that they like. We want our seniors to know that we care about you in our community and we want you to come out to our seniors’ centers and enjoy the activities we have over.”

The next big senior event in Saucier is the annual Halloween costume party.
