Redevelopment Authority returns to the City of Moss Point

Moving toward growing economic development, today Moss Point’s Redevelopment Authority held their second meeting.

Making a comeback after 20 years of inactivity, the Redevelopment Authority has plans to help Moss Point grow economically.

First, the board wants to look back at what redevelopment plans were made two decades ago then decide what areas of the city to focus on to start new projects.

Working to bring more business downtown, the board plans to make use of unutilized properties. Moss Point Redevelopment Authority Chairman Jimmy Wheat said, “We need to expand our tax base in Moss Point, if you look at our city funds the city needs some help there and I think through the Redevelopment Authority we can do some things and bring some projects in here that are going to increase the tax base so we can provide better services for the citizens of Moss Point.”

They are looking for the public to submit ideas for new projects and businesses they would like to see funded in the city.

The Redevelopment Authority meets each second Thursday of the month at City Hall at 5:30 p.m.
