Red Snapper season reopening Friday

This weekend might be your last chance at catching Red Snapper this season.

After bad weather on Labor Day Weekend, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources decided to extend their reopening of Red Snapper season to this weekend.

This season typically runs from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, but after not obtaining their 150,000-pound quota, DMR has decided to give anglers three more days of fishing. Fin Fish Bureau Director Matt Hill said, “The ‘Tails and Scales’ system and the state management with the allocation that was given to us for Red Snapper through NOAA is allowing us to give our anglers as much as opportunity and flexibility as we possibly can with this particular species.”

The season officially opens this Friday morning at 12 a.m. and closes Sunday evening at 11:59 p.m.
