Red snapper season opens

Anglers across the country are hitting the water for red snapper season opening today.

Private, recreational anglers and state-for-hire vessels kicked the season off at 12:01 this morning. There are a few things to keep in mind while out on the water. There is a catch limit and the season will close if the Gulf-wide quota is reached.

All anglers are required to register through the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources Tails N Scales program.

Anglers caught fishing for red snapper without a trip authorization number will be fined and marine patrol officers will confiscate their fish.

The season will run through September 2nd.
