Red Snapper season now open
Today’s the big day for anglers here in South Mississippi. Red Snapper season is now open in Mississippi waters.
The season will be open seven days a week in both state and federal waters. It will close if the annual catch limit for recreational fisherman is projected to be reached at any point after the season opens.
Gag grouper fishing season also opened up this morning and will close on November 9th unless the annual catch limit is met before that date.
Trevor Moncrief is the Finfish Bureau Director. He says this will giver fishers a little more time in the season, but they do not have a projected close date yet. “So, it’s providing our anglers another opportunity to harvest red snapper. Especially during the holiday period like Labor Day and into the cooler weather in the fall months. It just gives them a little more access. We’ve always tried to project but it gets difficult in the summer because you have to factor in weather and other activities that are going on.”
We will keep you updated when these fishing seasons close for the year.
