Red snapper season closes today

It’s the final day of the red snapper season for recreational fishermen in Mississippi. The Department of Marine Resources is set to close things down at 11:59 tonight.

Earlier this week, DMR officials announced that their reporting system indicates anglers are projected to reach their annual catch target of 138,000 pounds before the start of the weekend.

Louisiana closed its red snapper season last Sunday. Alabama and Florida closed their seasons nearly a month ago and Texas’ season is projected to close later this month.
