Rebecca Powers sworn in as District 2 Supervisor for Gulfport

Rebecca Powers officially took the oath of office tonight in Gulfport.

Surrounded by friends and family at Salute Restaurant in Gulfport, Powers was sworn in as the District 2 supervisor in Harrison County.

Powers defeated Shawn Petro in August for the position, receiving over 75 percent of the vote.

Powers tells News 25 that she can’t wait to get her term started as she’s looking forward to making a difference in her community. “When you get engaged, you really have such an amazing feeling of accomplishment. It’s better than making a million dollars, it is better than getting some dumb award. You really are, every day, feeling like ‘wow, you can make a difference.”

Powers will be sworn in again with the rest of the new Harrison County officials on Monday morning.
